Pay Range
Compensation for this position is expected to range between
$162,000 and $172,000 per year, in alignment with what
California Baptist University ( CBU ) reasonably anticipates paying
for this role. The final rate may vary depending on the candidate’s
qualifications, experience, and prevailing market conditions. In

Position Summary Information
Summary
Provides strategic leadership for Safety Services department by
planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating all
law enforcement and community service programs and activities for
security of the campus. Ensures a safe and secure campus through
enforcement of all local, state, and federal laws and adherence to
university policies and procedures. Develops rules and regulations
for the department as designated by applicable code. Coordinates
and administers daily activities through subordinates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, develop, implement, and manage services and programs,
which support and respond to the safety and security needs of the
university community.
- Establish and maintain departmental goals, objectives,
policies, and procedures and ensure compliance with all applicable
local, state, and federal laws through effective data collection,
statistical reporting, program assessment, and continuous
improvement.
- Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure and
staffing to effectively accomplish the organization’s goals and
objectives; recruit, employ, train, supervise, and evaluate unit
staff.
- Establish and maintain a cooperative relationship with local
law enforcement agencies in the prevention, control, and
investigation of illegal activities directed against the
university.
- File reports, observe, collect, preserve, and record physical
and oral evidence of crimes and incidents committed on university
property.
- Serve as the University’s Disaster Preparedness Plan
Coordinator.
- Publish the University’s Annual Security Report in compliance
with the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act and subsequent
revisions.
- Maintain awareness of best practices and trends in University
Safety Services as well as applicable local, state, and federal
laws.
- Maintain budgetary control for the Public Safety
Department.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervise employees. Carry out supervisory
responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and
applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training
employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; developing
appropriate departmental procedures, appraising performance;
rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and
resolving problems.

protocols, and/or procedures.
- Program planning and implementation skills.
- Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range
goals.
- Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating
procedures.
- Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing,
prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
- Ability to use independent judgement and to manage and impart
information to a range of clientele and/or media sources.
- Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control
procedures.
- Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills and
the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse

PHYSICAL DEMANDS : The physical demands described here are
representative of those that must be met by an employee to
successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While
performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly
required to stand; walk; sit; and requires sufficient hand, arm,
and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard or other office
equipment. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and
speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person or
over the phone. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up
to 20 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable

functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT : The work environment characteristics
described here are representative of those an employee encounters
while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise
level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work normally
performed requires moderate physical activity with standing and/or
walking around campus, with some exposure to hazards or physical
risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; and 5 to 7
years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination
of education and experience. Experience with the Jeanne Clery
Campus Safety Act, Injury Illness Prevention, Disaster
Preparedness, as relevant to the post-secondary educational
field.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT
- Must be able to qualify for, obtain, and maintain at all times
a license as a Qualified Manger of a Private Patrol Operator
through the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs (
BSIS ).
- Must be able to qualify for, obtain, and maintain at all times
a Guard Registration through the State of California, Department of
Consumer Affairs ( BSIS ).
- Must be able to qualify for and maintain at all times a State
of California, Department of Consumer Affairs Firearm ( BSIS )
permit.
- Must possess a valid California Driver License.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule of nights and
weekends.
- Knowledge of and the ability to apply relevant sections of the
California Penal Code, California Vehicle Code, California Business
and Professions Code, California Code of Regulations, and other
professional codes and statutes.
