This apprenticeship is part of OCTO, our technology organization dedicated to delivering innovative financial services for community banks and credit unions. The Android team plays a crucial role in developing and maintaining the Banno Mobile app, a cutting-edge digital banking solution used by financial institutions across the nation to provide a streamlined mobile experience.

As an Android Software Engineering Apprentice, you will have the invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience by contributing to a production mobile application that supports hundreds of financial institutions. This role is designed for individuals who are at the beginning of their software engineering journey and are eager to enhance their Android skills while collaborating with experienced engineers in a supportive environment.

Your responsibilities will include

• Learning and applying Android development practices while becoming familiar with our codebase.
• Triage and resolve incoming bug reports and assist with minor enhancements.
• Implementing small to medium-sized code changes under the guidance of mentors.
• Pairing and shadowing senior engineers on larger or more complex projects.
• Engaging in team discussions, contributing to code reviews, and collaborating daily.
• Building a solid foundation in mobile development within a regulated fintech environment.

While communication styles may vary, apprentices are expected to engage with teammates daily through chat, meetings, or pair programming. We encourage early-career talent to be curious, proactive, and confident in exploring independently while also being willing to ask questions whenever needed.

This position is ideal for someone who sees themselves as a humble, lifelong learner and is excited to develop their Android skills. Successful apprentices are curious, communicative, and unafraid to ask questions or make mistakes as part of the learning process.

Minimum Qualifications

• Authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
• Meets all legal requirements to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Java and/or Kotlin.
• Exposure to Android development concepts or tools.
• Familiarity with GitHub or other version control systems.
