## Overview
VisionFund International (VFI), the microfinance arm of World Vision, is offering a 3-month internship (1 June – 28 August 2026) for students and recent graduates to help redesign and enhance an existing Android mobile application used to digitize Internal Audit client questionnaires. VisionFund's work seeks to end intergenerational poverty through financial products and services, and this role supports a multi-country roll-out of an in‑house app to be used across microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe.
This internship is unpaid, but all US-based interns receive a monthly stipend of $800.
## Duration & Hours
- Internship period: 1 June – 28 August 2026 (3 months)
- Hours: Full-time and part-time opportunities available (24–40 hours/week)
- Candidates must be able to commit to at least 24 hours per week for the entire internship period.
## Responsibilities
- Review the current codebase and redesign the React Native app to support bilingual/multilingual UI (Spanish, English, French).
- Implement internationalization (i18n) using libraries like react-i18next.
- Refactor the app to be parametric and configuration-driven.
- Improve XLS file handling (import/export) with robust validation and formatting.
- Enhance UI/UX for dynamic forms and responsive design.
- Deliver clean, maintainable, secure, and well-documented code.
- Implement unit tests for XLS logic and language switching.
- Produce a roadmap and training materials for deployment in diverse IT ecosystems.
- Prepare documentation and training to support deployment across varied MFI IT environments.
## Required Experience & Technical Skills (include, but not limited to)
- Experience with React Native, React.js, and modern frontend development for Android.
- Familiarity with React Native components (e.g., FlatList, ScrollView, TouchableOpacity, react-native-fs, react-native-document-picker).
- Native modules integration for file system access and XLS import/export on Android.
- Android build tools (Gradle, Android Studio).
- Testing frameworks for mobile (Detox, Appium, or React Native Testing Library).
- Familiarity with internationalization libraries (react-i18next, react-intl).
- Experience with XLS/CSV handling libraries and mobile file system access (SheetJS/xlsx, react-native-document-picker, react-native-fs).
- Solid understanding of state management (Redux, Zustand, or Context API).
- Ability to design config-driven architectures (JSON, metadata-driven forms).
- Knowledge of responsive design and accessibility best practices.
- Experience with Git, CI/CD, and testing frameworks (Jest, React Testing Library).
- Deployment knowledge of Android build/deployment process: publishing to Google Play Store, handling APK/Bundle builds, and mobile CI/CD pipelines.
- Offline/device considerations: XLS handling on mobile local storage (AsyncStorage, SQLite, or Realm) and performance optimization for mobile devices.
## Preferred Skills
- Experience with backend integration (Node.js/Express).
- Familiarity with TypeScript for type safety.
- Knowledge of mobile performance optimization and offline-first design patterns.
## Eligibility & Other Requirements
- At least 18 years of age.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States (e.g., U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or F-1 student visa holder with valid work authorization) and possess a valid U.S. Social Security Number.
- Current student or recent graduate from an undergraduate/graduate program (within 2 years).
- Willingness to use own electronic devices for internship purposes and disposition to allow WVI to install endpoint security software on those devices.
- Adherence to World Vision International’s Christian Statement of Faith.

## Location Restrictions
Remote within the US. You must be physically located in one of the following states where WVI is registered as an employer: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia (Washington D.C.), Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.
## Appropriate Fields of Study
Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field with demonstrated experience in technology-enabled projects.
